Overview

Svanu is a personal health coach app. This policy explains what data the app uses, what leaves your device, and what it is used for. The short version: your health data stays on your device except for the specific, user-initiated features described below, and we never sell it, use it for ads, or track you.

Your health data stays on your device

With your permission, Svanu reads data from Apple Health: sleep, heart rate, heart-rate variability, resting heart rate, respiratory rate, wrist temperature, blood oxygen, steps, workouts, active and basal energy, body mass, and dietary entries. It uses this data to compute your scores (recovery, sleep, strain, and related insights) on your device. Raw Apple Health records are never uploaded to us or to any third party.

Things you log in the app, such as meals, water, weight, workouts, caffeine and alcohol intake, daily check-ins, and lab results, are stored locally on your device, and in your device backups per your iOS settings. If you enable "Sync to Apple Health," meals, water, and weight you log are also written back to Apple Health. That write-back stays entirely between your device and Apple's HealthKit store, and deleting such an entry in Svanu removes it from Apple Health too.

Cycle tracking is optional and off by default. If you turn on "Use cycle data" in Settings, Svanu also reads your period logs (menstrual flow) from Apple Health to label cycle phases on your device. Cycle data is kept in memory only: it is never saved by Svanu, never included in data exports, widgets, notifications, or share cards, and never sent to us, our AI providers, or any third party. Turning the setting off clears it from the app; to fully revoke read access, use the Health app. Cycle phases are estimates, not medical advice, and not a way to plan or prevent pregnancy.

When you import a lab report (a PDF, a photo, or a scan of a paper report), Svanu reads it on your device. The file, the image, and the text read from it are never uploaded, never saved, and never exported; only the results you confirm are saved, as lab results. Imported results are then treated like results you enter by hand, including in AI requests described below.

AI features send a summary to our server, with your consent

Svanu's AI features (coach chat, Today's insight, meal-photo nutrition estimates, and meal-description estimates) run only when you use them, and only after you have explicitly agreed to the in-app AI disclosure ("Agree & Continue"). If you decline, every non-AI feature keeps working, and you will simply be asked again the next time you start an AI action. If the scope of what these requests contain ever expands, the app asks for your consent again before the next AI request.

Each AI request can include:

  • up to 7 days of your scores and metrics (recovery, sleep, strain, resting heart rate, HRV, steps, workouts) and, when relevant, an illness-signal summary;
  • your profile: age, sex, height, weight, and goal;
  • your most recent logged lab results;
  • your recent daily check-in notes;
  • for meal estimates: the photo you chose or took, and any note you added;
  • for meal descriptions: only the text you typed (at most 500 characters), with no health summary attached.

These requests go to a server we operate, which forwards them to OpenRouter and the AI model provider that generates the reply. Requests carry a random per-install device identifier used solely to enforce the free and Pro usage caps. No account, email, or name is involved. We use these requests only to produce your response and for basic operational records (usage metering, abuse prevention). We do not sell this data, share it with data brokers, or use it to train models.

Pending before publication: how long our server retains AI request bodies and logs, and the OpenRouter and model-provider retention settings in effect for the models used. This section will state those periods before launch.

Food search uses public nutrition databases

Generic foods come from a copy of USDA FoodData Central stored inside the app, so searching it, and matching the food names from a meal description, happens on your device and nothing is sent. To find packaged products, your search text or the barcode number you scan is sent to Open Food Facts. No health data and no device identifier accompany these lookups.

Subscriptions are handled by Apple

Svanu Pro is an auto-renewing subscription sold and billed by Apple through the App Store, using StoreKit. We never see or store your payment information. Apple provides a cryptographic receipt (a signed transaction) that our server verifies, together with the per-install device identifier, to determine whether your device qualifies for the Pro usage tier. No account, email, or name is required or used.

Data export

Settings, then Export, prepares CSV and JSON files of your last 365 days of metrics and everything you have logged, entirely on your device. Sharing those files is your action alone; the app never uploads them.

No ads, no tracking

Svanu does not show ads, does not include third-party advertising or analytics SDKs, and does not track you across other companies' apps or websites. Your health data is never used for advertising or disclosed to data brokers.

Retention and deletion

  • On your device: individual logged items can be deleted in the app. Uninstalling the app removes all app-local data, subject to your iCloud and device backup settings.
  • On our server: we keep only usage-metering and subscription-verification records keyed by the random per-install device identifier. To have these deleted, contact info@svanu.app.
  • AI providers: requests pass through OpenRouter to the responding model provider under the retention terms described above.

Children

Svanu is not directed at children under 13, or the equivalent minimum age in your region, and does not knowingly collect their data.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at the same URL with a new "Last updated" date. Changes that expand what AI requests contain additionally trigger a new in-app consent prompt.
