Svanu vs Bevel vs Athlytic (and how they compare with Whoop)

Bevel vs Whoop comes down to hardware and cost model. WHOOP sells a membership that includes its own band, from $199 a year as of October 2026. Bevel is an iPhone app that computes recovery, sleep and strain from data your existing devices write to Apple Health; it is free to start, with Bevel Pro at $14.99 a month or $99.99 a year. Athlytic and Svanu take the same app-based approach at lower paid prices.

This page compares the three apps, Svanu, Bevel and Athlytic, and shows where WHOOP fits. Disclosure: Svanu is our app. Features and prices for Bevel, Athlytic and WHOOP come only from their own App Store pages and websites, checked in October 2026. If something has changed, their pages are the source of truth.

What is the difference between Bevel and Whoop?

WHOOP is hardware plus software: you pay a yearly membership and receive a WHOOP band. Bevel is software only: it reads data from devices you already own, such as Apple Watch, Oura, Garmin or Amazfit, through Apple Health. Both give daily recovery, sleep and strain scores. WHOOP's higher tiers add health monitoring and, with the WHOOP MG device, ECG and blood pressure features.

If you already own an Apple Watch, Bevel avoids buying and wearing a second device. If you want a dedicated screenless band and WHOOP's integrated coaching, WHOOP is the direct route. Our Whoop alternatives guide covers other hardware options.

What does Bevel include?

Bevel's App Store page lists a Recovery Score, Sleep Score with a smart alarm, Strain Score personalized to sleep and recovery, Nutrition Score with barcode scan, image search, recipe creation and a database of 6 million+ foods, Stress Score, a Strength Builder with 700+ exercises, Energy Bank, Biological Age, Health Records and a Journal, plus Bevel Intelligence, its AI coach.

Bevel's website lists Apple Watch, Oura, Garmin and Amazfit as supported sources, and says "Your data is yours. We never sell it." The App Store privacy label lists health and fitness data as collected but not linked to your identity, and lists identifiers that may be used for tracking.

Pricing: free to download, with Bevel Pro at $14.99 a month or $99.99 a year, plus optional packs of Bevel Intelligence credits. Bevel is a good fit if you want one app for recovery, food and strength training, and you value an AI coach.

What does Athlytic include?

Athlytic's App Store page and website list a daily Recovery score from 0 to 100%, based on overnight HRV and resting heart rate against your baseline, an Exertion score from 0 to 10 with a personalized Target Exertion zone, workout suggestions, Athlytic Age, Battery and Stress views, Target Sleep, a 24/7 health monitor and a habit journal with impact analysis.

Athlytic says an Apple Watch is needed for most features. Its privacy label says Data Not Collected, and its website says everything is read and processed on your device through Apple Health, with no accounts and no tracking. Questions about your data use Ask Athlytic, powered by Apple Intelligence.

Pricing: $4.99 a month or $29.99 a year, with a 1-week free trial. Athlytic is a good fit if you own an Apple Watch and want a focused recovery and exertion app with strong on-device privacy.

What does Svanu include?

Svanu computes recovery, sleep, strain, stress and a daily check-in score on your iPhone from Apple Health data. Every score shows its inputs and what moved it. Recovery compares this morning's HRV and resting heart rate with your own baseline, plus sleep. The baseline starts provisional after 3 nights and becomes full at 7.

Other features from our fact sheet:

  • Sleep: score 0 to 100 (duration 50%, stage quality 30%, bedtime consistency 20%), sleep debt and tonight's bedtime from your own median wake time.
  • Strain and load: strain 0 to 100 with a daily target band; acute 7-day vs chronic 42-day training load.
  • Camera HRV: a 20 to 30 second finger reading on the rear camera computes RMSSD; camera readings are only compared with camera readings.
  • Habits: one-tap caffeine logging with caffeine still active at bedtime, and 30-day correlations for caffeine, alcohol, nutrition and mindfulness.
  • Other: illness signals against your own baseline (never a diagnosis), biological age range, VO2max (Apple Health or a labeled estimate), optional cycle view, lab results import, Siri shortcuts, and widgets in Pro.

Privacy: all scores are computed on the iPhone, there is no health database on the server, no sign-up and no email, and export to CSV and JSON takes one tap. The AI coach sends requests to an AI model through the app's server, which does not store health data.

Which is the most affordable over two years?

Does Apple's Readiness app replace these apps?

For some people, yes. Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 include a Readiness app with a 0 to 10 score from recent activity, overnight vitals, daytime heart rate and sleep score data, compared with your baseline. If you own one of those models, try it first. Third-party apps remain useful on older watches, with other devices, or when you want more detail on each input.

Apple lists four bands: Recover (0 to 1), Pace Yourself (2 to 4), Ready (5 to 7) and Go For It (8 to 10). Its baseline needs at least 7 nights of sleep with the watch in the past 49. For more on getting a recovery score from an Apple Watch, read Apple Watch recovery score: how to get one, and for how WHOOP's score works, see Whoop recovery without Whoop.

Which should you choose?

Choose based on what you already wear and what you want beyond recovery. If you want a dedicated band with integrated coaching, choose WHOOP. If you want one app for recovery, food, strength and an AI coach, choose Bevel. If you want a focused recovery app with data that stays on device, choose Athlytic. If you want explainable scores, caffeine timing and the lowest paid price, try Svanu.
